About Me

I grew up in a rich musical tradition, but not one which pressured me to take up an instrument. I came into music through the observation and osmosis of joy that it brought my family and knew I had to be a part of this magical force.

I started playing guitar at the age of eight and then picked up the trombone shortly thereafter in middle school. I went on to study bass trombone performance at Northwestern University and Portland State University before returning to my home of Portland, OR in 2015 to perform and to establish my instrument repair business Bridge City Guitar.

When I’m not at the workbench, I can currently be seen on tour with Mbrascatu and performing in the function band Snapshot throughout the NW.

Teaching

For me, teaching and performance have always gone hand in hand. The concepts I teach constantly evolve through performance and active application. I take great pride in preparing my students for a life of musical joy, whether that's onstage, in the recording studio, or at home on the couch with friends.

I firmly believe that everyone can learn to create music regardless of age and I love working with students of all skill levels. Seeing a brand new player make breakthroughs brings me as much joy as seeing a seasoned pro finally get over a long plateau. I tailor my lessons to each individual student and find that a one size fits all method/curriculum fails to effectively address each student’s needs.
